A Heart Issue

Matthew 18 Verse 31-35   So when his fellow slaves saw what had happened, they were deeply grieved and came and reported to their lord all that had happened.  Then summoning him, his lord said to him, ‘You wicked slave, I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me.  Should you not also have had mercy on your fellow slave, in the same way that I had mercy on you?’

And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him.

My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart.”                  (NASB)

What does Jesus tell us here?   We must forgive from our heart.   When we realize how much we have been forgiven of by our LORD, we in turn should forgive those around us.   We should not hold grudges, no matter how good it may feel at first, as that only leads to torment.

Remember Jesus’ words when He was hanging on the cross, “Father, forgive them because they do not know what they do.”   – Luke 23:34

How merciful our LORD is!

Remember the words He taught us to pray, “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”   – Matthew 6:12

Remember . . . nothing is impossible with GOD and He can and will help us to forgive from our heart.

Dear Lord, please have mercy on us.  Thank you for dying on the cross for our sins.  Thank you for forgiving us of all our sins and casting them into the depths of the sea.   Help us to forgive those who sinned against us, and may those we have sinned against forgive us.  You are a merciful and just Judge.   Amen

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary
