Day 5 of our Countdown

Colossians Chapter 3 Verses 12-17

Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.  Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you.  Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.  And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.   For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.  And always be thankful.

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.  Teach and counsel each other with all wisdom He gives.  Sing psalms and hymns and  spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.  And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

Day 6 of our Countdown to Thanksgiving

1 Thessalonians Chapter 5 Verses 12-18

Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are you leaders in the Lord’s work.  They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance.  Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work.  And live peacefully with each other.

Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy.  Encourage those who are timid.  Take tender care of those who are weak.  Be patient with everyone.

See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

Always be joyful.  Never stop praying.  Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

Thanksgiving Countdown #4

Isaiah 12

In that day you will sing:  “I will praise You, O LORD!  You were angry with me, but not any more.  Now You comfort me.  See, God has come to save me.  I will trust in Him and not be afraid.  The LORD GOD is my strength and my song; He has given me victory.”

With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation!  In that wonderful day you will sing:  “Thank the LORD!  Praise His Name!  Tell the nations what He has done.  Let them know how mighty He is!

Sing to the LORD, for He has done wonderful things.   Make known His praise around the world.  Let all the people of Jerusalem shout His praise with joy!   For great is the Holy One of Israel who lives among you.

Thank GOD for Salvation through Jesus Christ!

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

COUNTDOWN TO THANKSGIVING #3

2 Corinthians Chapter 4 Verses 15-18

For all things are for our sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God.

Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.  For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Let us remember to count our blessings – daily.  Not only during this season of “Thanksgiving”, but in every season.  The good times and the bad times.   As the old hymn says, “Count your blessings, name them one by one, count your many blessings see what God has done!”

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

Countdown to Thanksgiving

Psalm 95:1-7

O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD,  let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.

For the LORD is a great God and a great King above all gods, in Whose hand are the depths of the earth, the peaks of the mountains are His also.

The sea is His, for it was He who made it, and His hands formed the dry land.

Come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.

For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand.

Today if you would His voice, do not harden your hearts . . .

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

The Greatest Commandment

Matthew Chapter 22 Verses 36-40

One of them, an expert in religious law, asked Him a question, testing Him,  “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law of Moses?”

Jesus replied,  ”YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’   This is the great and foremost commandment.  The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’  On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

No Wavering

Hebrews Chapter 10 Verses 23 -25

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.  Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.  And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.

Jesus is coming soon!   No giving up, no giving in, no compromising, no wavering.

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

God’s Steadfast Love

Matthew Chapter 4 Verse 4     “MAN SHALL NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.”

Fruit of the Spirit

Galatians Chapter 5 Verses 19-24

When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,  idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.  There is no law against these things!

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there.   (NLT)

Dear Lord,  fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we may live a life that is pleasing unto you.

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

Our Hope is in the Lord

Psalm 39 Verse 7

“And now O Lord, for what do I wait?   My hope is in You.”

Regardless of what is going on in this world, our hope is in the Lord.    There is financial instability in world markets-our hope is in the Lord.

News reporters are  murdered on live television-our hope is in the Lord.

Police officers murdered in cold blood-our hope is in the Lord.

Politicians are making “pacts” with our enemies-our hope is in the Lord.

Society says “what is right is wrong”  “what is wrong is right”-our hope is in the Lord.

Today do not despair or be discouraged because our hope is not in the things of this life-our HOPE is in the LORD!

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

Christianity is not for Wimps

Titus Chapter 1 Verses 5a-9

“ . . . appoint elders in every city as I directed you, namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion.  For the overseer must be above reproach as God’s steward, not self-willed, not quick tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not found of sordid gain, but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self controlled, holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able to both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict.”     (NASB)

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

LOVE THE WORD OF GOD

Psalm 119 Verses 33- 37

Teach me Your decrees, O LORD; I will keep them to the end.

Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart.

Make me walk along the paths of Your commands, for that is where my happiness is found.

Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!

Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through Your word.                      (NLT)

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

Character Building

Hebrews Chapter 13 Verses 5 & 6

Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU, NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU,” so that we confidently say, “THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID.  WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?”                      (NASB)

God Hears My Voice

Psalm 116 Verses 1-2

I love the Lord, for He heard my voice;
He heard my cry for mercy.
Because He turned His ear to me,
I will call on Him as long as I live.

GOD HEARS

Psalm 116

I love the Lord, because He hears
My voice and my supplications.
Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I shall call upon Him as long as I live.
The cords of death encompassed me
And the terrors of Sheol came upon me;
I found distress and sorrow.
Then I called upon the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I beseech You, save my life!”

Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
Yes, our God is compassionate.
The Lord preserves the simple;
I was brought low, and He saved me.
Return to your rest, O my soul,
For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

For You have rescued my soul from death,
My eyes from tears,
My feet from stumbling.
I shall walk before the Lord
In the land of the living.
I believed when I said,
“I am greatly afflicted.”
 I said in my alarm,
“All men are liars.”

What shall I render to the Lord
For all His benefits toward me?
I shall lift up the cup of salvation
And call upon the name of the Lord.
I shall pay my vows to the Lord,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people.
Precious in the sight of the Lord
Is the death of His godly ones.

O Lord, surely I am Your servant,
I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid,
You have loosed my bonds.
To You I shall offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving,
And call upon the name of the Lord.

I shall pay my vows to the Lord,
Oh may it be in the presence of all His people,
In the courts of the Lord’s house,
In the midst of you, O Jerusalem.
Praise the Lord!

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary

Trust In God

Psalm 62:8       Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Psalm 31:14       But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord, I say, “You are my God.”

In Christ,

Stephen and Mary
