John Chapter 19 Verse 11 Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above . . .”
Matthew Chapter 26 Verses 53 and 54 Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions of angels? How then will the Scriptures be fulfilled, which say that it must happen this way?” (NASB)
GOD IS IN CONTROL
John 19:11 is Jesus’ response to Pontius Pilate’s question to Him: “Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?” Jesus responded very clearly that this was all part of God’s plan and something that God was allowing. Scripture is very clear in letting us know that there is a penalty required for sin. Although Jesus had never sinned, he chose to take our place and pay the penalty for our sin. The horrific punishment and death that Jesus endured on the cross had to happen. Why? Because of us! Our sin caused His punishment and death – a penalty He willing took on for us! Matthew 26 tells us that if it were just a matter of one man punishing another, Jesus could have asked God His Father to send angels to deliver Him. However, Jesus willing bore the penalty that our sin demanded and willingly took the beating and willingly died on the cross for my sins.
Pontius Pilate, a government official, thought that he was in control. NOT!
Here in 2015, we are on the other side of the cross, and we know the good news that three days later Jesus rose from the dead! God sent His Son so that we who believe – believe that we are sinners in need of a Savior, believe that He took our punishment, believe in Him – will not perish, but have everlasting life.
Don’t be discouraged when you look around today. We know that all these things must take place, so be of good courage because Jesus is coming back and He will rule and reign on the earth, just as HE said!
