A Garland to Grace

Proverbs Chapter 1 Verses 8-9     Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.   They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

Today’s VOD is an excerpt from the WithTrueHope blog.  If you are interested in studying the Book of Proverbs, come join me this summer! You’ll find daily breakdowns of Proverbs here: https://withtruehope.wordpress.com/category/proverbs/ .

The Book of Proverbs contains statements of well-established perfect truth.  What does this mean?  It means that Proverbs provides the most universal yet most personal purposes, insights, and answers for living life as God intends by the author of life Himself– God.

The graceful garland and adorning chain in Proverbs 1:8-9 signify a distinguishment.  They are items which would certainly make it obvious that the wearer is set apart, different from the norm.  That’s the effect of listening to wise (aka God-given) instruction and not forsaking wise (aka God-given) teaching– standing apart from the masses as a peculiar person.

Isn’t that what all Christians are called to?

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9, KJV).

“And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments” (Deuteronomy 26:18, KJV).

Let’s be graceful garland, adorning chain wearing wisdom listening peculiar people!

In Christ,
